A Brand Built for The Love of Pets

Challenge
Preserving Legacy While Evolving Brand Relevance
Pets Training & Boarding has been family run in Berkshire Park, Sydney since 1980, and it started life as a guard dog training centre. Forty five years of word of mouth was working perfectly, and it was recommending a business that no longer existed. The market moved with them. A new generation of pet owners reads reviews, expects to book online, and decides before they ever call. PETS had already built for that customer, with puppy school, boarding, grooming, day care, transport and a vet on call. The brand was the one part still describing 1980. Forty five years of trust is real, and all of it was stored in people. The neighbour who recommended them, the vet who mentioned them, the trainer everyone already knew. That kind of trust only works when a human is standing next to it, and the new customer has nobody standing next to them. They are on a phone at 10pm, about to leave a family member with strangers for a week, and for the first time the brand has to carry the whole trust load on its own. Nothing was broken. The care was never in question. Its visibility was.

Refining Brand Identity, Positioning, and Communication
The brief was to keep the legacy and lead with the services Pets Training & Boarding offers now. Somma redrew the wordmark, built a colour and type system around it, and wrote guidelines a team can apply without a designer, then carried it into uniforms, signage, a welcome pack and collateral. The website followed the same logic. People arrive at a pet care business with one question, and it is rarely the one you expect. For PETS it is not what do you offer, it is will my dog be alright, so the interface was built as the path from that question to a booking. Every service sits on its own page, the structure underneath is clean enough for search and AI to read before they read the words, and the whole thing is fast on a phone, because that is where the decision is actually made.

A Brand That Balances Trust, Care, and Experience
Pets Training & Boarding now has one brand that carries training, boarding, grooming, day care, transport and a vet on call, and a website that answers the question a pet owner is actually asking. Family run since 1980. More than forty five thousand dogs trained. Over fifteen thousand happy clients and more than 250 Google reviews. No customer has ever met a brand guideline. They meet a trainer at 7am. The system was built for them, clear enough to apply without a designer and consistent enough that the standard does not change with whoever is on shift, because in a service business the brand is only as good as the morning shift.
